Party Bus Prices in Orange County: What You Should Expect to Pay
Let's start with the number you actually came here for. In Orange County, a party bus rental typically runs $200 to $375 an hour depending on vehicle size, day of the week, and season. A stretch limousine runs about $100 to $150 an hour. Most companies set a four-hour minimum, so a typical night lands somewhere between $800 and $1,400 before gratuity.
Those figures are researched from the Orange County market rather than invented, and they are the same bands we price inside. Here is what actually moves them.
What Drives the Price #
Four things account for nearly all of the difference between a $200 quote and a $375 one. Get these right and you can compare two quotes apples to apples.
| Factor | What it does to the rate | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle size | The biggest single lever. 10–20 passenger vehicles sit at the bottom of the band, 25–30 passenger buses in the middle, and 40-plus passenger buses at the top. | Pick the smallest vehicle that fits your real headcount. Paying for a 30-seat bus for 12 people is the most common mistake we see. |
| Day of the week | Friday and Saturday carry the premium, typically 15 to 25 percent above a midweek rate for the same vehicle. | If your date is flexible, a Thursday or Sunday night lands meaningfully cheaper on the same bus. |
| Season and date | Halloween weekend, graduation season, and major holiday weekends price at the top of the band. Midweek in February prices at the bottom. | If your event can move, avoid peak weekends. A Tuesday bachelorette costs meaningfully less than the Saturday equivalent. |
| Minimum and mileage | The four-hour minimum is industry standard. Some companies also charge per mile beyond a set radius, or a deadhead fee when the vehicle starts far from your pickup. | Ask whether the quote includes mileage and whether a deadhead fee applies. Both are common and both are negotiable. |
Typical Rates by Vehicle Type #
| Vehicle | Seats | Typical OC hourly rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stretch limousine | 6–8 | $100–$125/hr | Couples, small groups, one destination |
| Chrysler 300 limo | 8 | $125–$140/hr | Dinner runs and arrivals worth filming |
| Hummer limo | 12 | $140–$160/hr | Groups of 8 to 12 wanting space |
| Luxury SUV / Escalade | 6–8 | $130–$160/hr | Corporate, airport, small groups |
| Mercedes Sprinter limo | up to 14 | $140–$200/hr | Mixed groups, split across two vehicles |
| Party bus, small | 15–20 | $195–$250/hr | Groups of 10 to 20 |
| Party bus, medium | 25–30 | $250–$375/hr | Groups of 20 to 30, the most booked size |
| Party bus, large | 40–50 | from $250/hr, up to $375+ | Groups over 35 or split-vehicle groups |
Two things worth knowing about how these numbers are usually published. Ranges like these are starting points, not quotes, and a genuine quote depends on your date, hours, stops, and pickup address. And the lower end of any band usually reflects a weekday, which is why the same bus can quote $204 on a Tuesday and $340 on a Saturday.
The Four-Hour Minimum, Explained #
Almost every limo and party bus company in Orange County enforces a four-hour minimum. That exists because a vehicle committed to a party bus is unavailable to anyone else during those hours, whether or not you need all of them.
This is why a single airport run on a party bus is poor value. A four-hour minimum means a 45-minute transfer can cost you four times the hourly rate. For a short hop, book a car service or an SUV instead. If you need a limo for a short trip, ask specifically for a one-way transfer rate, which several companies price separately at a discount to the hourly minimum.
The flip side: four hours is genuinely enough for most party bus nights. Drop-off at seven, four hours at the venue or the bar route, pickup at one. If you think you need more than four, it is usually because you are planning a long itinerary with a lot of waiting, and a longer booking at a cheaper vehicle often works out better.
What Is Not Included in the Hourly Rate #
This is where quotes get expensive later instead of expensive up front. Four items frequently sit outside the advertised hourly rate.
- Gratuity. Most companies quote pre-gratuity and add 15 to 20 percent afterward. Some quote it inclusive. Ask which.
- Overtime. Time beyond the booked block is billed at an hourly rate, often above the base rate. A park night that overruns by 90 minutes is the most common surprise charge.
- Mileage and deadhead. Some include a radius around the shop; others charge per mile or a fee if the vehicle starts far from your pickup.
- Cleaning fee, rarely. A significant spill or mess can trigger it. Not a normal charge, but worth knowing about.
None of these are unreasonable. They are simply things a bare hourly number does not tell you. A quote that lists the hourly rate, the minimum, the overtime rate, and the gratuity in writing is worth more than a cheaper headline number that leaves all four open.
Cost Per Person: The Number That Matters #
Hourly rates are close to meaningless until you divide by your headcount, because the whole point of a bus is that the cost spreads.
| Group size | Vehicle | 4-hour night | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | Stretch limo | about $500 | about $83 |
| 8 | Chrysler 300 or Hummer | about $560 | about $70 |
| 12 | Hummer or Sprinter | about $700 | about $58 |
| 16 | Small party bus | about $900 | about $56 |
| 20 | Medium party bus | about $1,000 | about $50 |
| 24 | Medium party bus | about $1,100 | about $46 |
| 30 | Medium party bus | about $1,300 | about $43 |
Read that last column twice. Per-person cost keeps falling as the group grows, and that is the entire argument for a bus over two cars or three Ubers. Twelve people in a Sprinter at about $58 a head beats three surge-priced rides home at 1 AM. Thirty people at about $43 a head is difficult to argue with.
The crossover sits around ten people. Below that, two cars are usually cheaper. We will tell you that on the phone if it is true for your night, because a limo company that only ever says yes is not useful to anyone.
Costs You Can Reduce Without Asking #
A few things lower the total without making the night worse.
- Shift the date off Friday or Saturday. Same bus, same night, 15 to 25 percent less. This is the single biggest saving available and it costs nothing but a text to your group.
- Pick the smallest vehicle that genuinely fits. The jump from a 20-pax to a 30-pax bus can add $200 or more to the night for seats nobody sits in.
- Collect payment before the night, not after. Nothing about a $900 balance settled at 1 AM improves the group dynamic.
- Book the minimum honestly. Four hours usually covers a party bus night. Paying for eight because you are unsure is the most expensive form of uncertainty.
How to Read a Quote Properly #
When a quote lands, check these five things before comparing it to anything else.
- 01 Is the hourly rate inclusive of gratuity, or is that added later?
- 02 What is the minimum, and is this quote priced for that minimum or for the hours you actually need?
- 03 What is the overtime rate, and what happens if the night runs long?
- 04 Is mileage or a deadhead fee included?
- 05 Is this vehicle owned and operated by the company, or brokered from a third party? A broker can be legitimate, but you are paying a markup and you do not know whose vehicle it is.
A quote under $200 an hour for a 24-passenger bus is worth questioning. Either that rate does not include the things listed above, or the vehicle belongs to someone else and is being brokered to you.
Getting an Exact Quote #
Send us four things and we will put a fixed number in writing, including the minimum, overtime, and gratuity, so there is nothing to argue about on the night itself:
- Your date, and the start time
- How many passengers, and how many of those are under 18
- Your pickup address or ZIP code
- How many stops, and the venue or park you are headed to
You will have the number the same day, and it will not change when the vehicle arrives.
